Description of Department/Section/Unit’s Responsibilities in the construction process in the City Of Mobile:

Central Permitting is responsible for coordination of plan reviews, permitting and scheduling inspections for new construction and renovations for commercial and residential construction; including: building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, swimming pools, fences, historic painting, modular buildings, moving and demolition permits, land disturbing, paving, and communication towers. Central Permitting is also responsible for the issuance of Certificates of Occupancy for both new residential and commercial construction, issuance of trade competency cards for electricians and plumbers. Central Permitting also maintains contractors’ bonds on file with City of Mobile. They are also responsible for verifying contractors’ local and state licensing requirements and maintaining a database of all permits issued in flood zones within the City.

Description of Department/Section/Unit’s Responsibilities in the construction process in the City Of Mobile:

The Urban Development West Mobile Office offers limited services to the citizens in the western sector of the city. Some of these services rendered are residential construction permits, Right of Way permits, and banner permits. In addition, the West Mobile Office is home to the Electrical Inspection Unit and renders services in support of that unit.
